As a journalist, marketing specialist, and biographer, Barbara Lehman Smith's articles, essays, and profiles have been featured in various publications including Fine Art Connoisseur, AVALON, and Pennsylvania Heritage. As a member of Biographers International Organization since 2010, she currently serves on the Board of Directors and on its Development committee. She also has served on the Plutarch committee, which helps select BIO's most prestigious award.
Clients of her marketing business, Smith Publications, LLC, include St. Joseph Medical Center, Johns Hopkins magazine, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore school system. On Martha's Vineyard, she has assisted Bunch of Grapes bookstore with author events, and during the summer of 2024, she managed the myriad of author events for Edgartown Books at various venues. As adjunct faculty for Goucher College in Towson, MD, she also taught a writing & graphic design class for eight years.
Barbara has just completed her debut novel, The Magic of Dead Things, about three modern-day biographers gradually consumed by the madcap life of their subject. Raised in Massachusetts, she earned her M.A. from the University of Baltimore, and B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park. She lives in Baltimore, Maryland, and Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
