About

As a journalist and feature writer, Barbara Lehman Smith has written for various print and digital platforms including Fine Art Connoisseur, AVALON, Triathlete, and Pennsylvania Heritage. Her biography, Elizabeth Sparhawk-Jones: The Artist Who Lived Twice, brought to light the tumultuous story of the 20th century painter. A member of Biographers International Organization since 2010, Barbara currently serves on the BIO Board of Directors and on its Development committee.

Clients of her marketing business, Smith Publications, LLC,  included St. Joseph Medical Center, Johns Hopkins magazine, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore school system. On Martha's Vineyard, she spends the summer season managing author events for Edgartown Books and other venues in its bustling literary community. As adjunct faculty for Goucher College in Towson, MD,  she also taught a writing & graphic design class for eight years.  ​

 

Barbara has just completed her debut novel, The Magic of Dead Things, about three modern-day biographers gradually consumed by the madcap life of their real-life subject, Elinor Wylie. 

 

Raised in Massachusetts, Barbara earned her M.A. from the University of Baltimore, and B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park.  She lives in Baltimore, Maryland, and Edgartown, Massachusetts.
