About

As a journalist, marketing specialist, and biographer, Barbara Lehman Smith's articles, essays, and profiles have been featured in various publications including Fine Art Connoisseur, AVALON, and Pennsylvania Heritage. As a member of Biographers International Organization since 2010, she currently serves on the Board of Directors and on its Development committee. She also has served on the Plutarch committee, which helps select BIO's most prestigious award.

Clients of her marketing business, Smith Publications, LLC,  range from the Bunch of Grapes Author Series on Martha's Vineyard to St. Joseph Medical Center, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore school system. As adjunct faculty for Goucher College in Towson, MD,  she also taught a writing & graphic design class for eight years.

Barbara is currently working on her debut novel, The Magic of Dead Things, about four modern-day biographers gradually consumed by the madcap life of their subject. Inspired by meeting readers at literary events who voiced a strong interest in the behind-the-scenes processes of the writer, she hopes the novel, which is interwoven with biography, frames the craft in a new and intriguing way.

Raised in Massachusetts, she earned her M.A. from the University of Baltimore, and B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park.  She lives in Baltimore, Maryland, and Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
